Sexuality is to do with how people express themselves as sexual beings – the relationships they have, the intimacy they express and the intensity and frequency with which they exhibit sexual behaviour.

It’s much more than ‘having a good romp’. It is about what drives and motivates us to find certain people more attractive than others. That is about gender, chemical and personality attraction as well as physical appearance.

Sexuality comes with a huge amount of baggage. It is one of those areas you just don’t talk about openly. Perhaps that is one of the reasons why most of us have hang-ups about our sexuality.

For some of us, sex education left a lot to be desired. As teenagers, we muddled through clumsily and as adults – what we didn’t know wasn’t worth knowing. And anyway, we certainly weren’t about to admit to any gap in knowledge in that department!

For others, the animal is long out of its cage and we have been struggling for years to tame its wild and unpredictable nature. It feels as though we are the only ones to have this burning desire which is socially unacceptable and leaves us with constant guilt about who we are.

Sexuality is beautiful and hugely enjoyable. Everybody is doing it (being a sexual being that is), so let’s take the animal out of its cage and allow it some room to explore, without doing any harm to anyone.
